Wives will face quiz

US officials may soon be allowed to question Osama Bin Laden's three wives.

The women - a Yemeni and two Saudi Arabians - were left behind after the US raid that killed Bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 2.

Pakistani officials yesterday said no decision had been taken on whether US investigators see them.

But a US spokesman said: "Pakistan appears willing to grant access."

OSAMA Bin Laden's deputy will join terror fiend Anwar al-Awlaki to form the new high command of al-Qaeda.

Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahiri is expected to be named as the organisation's new leader.

But US-born Awlaki, 40, hiding out in Yemen, is al-Qaeda's rising "star".

Experts predict Zawahiri will use him to hold the wobbling terror network together.

He is rated as a major terror threat to Britain and the US and has been linked to a number of major plots.

Last week we told how he tried to recruit an undercover Sun investigator for a UK attack.

Because he is fluent in English he is able to communicate widely with potential Western-based terror recruits.

A few days ago, he narrowly escaped a US drone attack. A spokesman for counter-terror think-tank Quilliam said: "Zawahiri will take over from Bin Laden.

But al-Qaeda is in danger of fragmenting. Zawahiri will reach out to factions including al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen where Awlaki is."

Zawahiri, 59, is believed to be hiding out in a Pakistani city, as Bin Laden did.

Meanwhile, al-Qaeda warned that the US had committed a "big mistake" and would "pay the price" for killing Bin Laden.
