Maajid Nawaz speaks at St Gallen Symposium

On 13 May 2011, Quilliam's Executive Director Maajid Nawaz spoke at the St Gallen Symposium in Switzerland, an annual event that brought together entrepreneurs, civil society leaders, politicians and academics. At the event Maajid was interviewed live on stage by Riz Khan, the Al-Jazeera presenter on his experiences in Hizb ut-Tahrir, on the nature of Islamist extremism, on the Arab Spring and on what the international community can do to support effective challenges to extremism.

Noman Benotman speaks at United Nations event on counter-narratives

On 6th April 2011 Noman Benotman, a senior analyst at Quilliam, was a keynote speaker at a major international event on 'counter-narratives' at the Hague that was held by the United Nations and the government of the Netherlands. Noman discussed al-Qaeda's use of narratives and how the international community can help to challenge these narratives and develop useful counter-narratives. Other speakers included high-level representatives of the governments of the Netherlands, the UK, the US and Canada.

Ghaffar Hussain speaks at UK Defence Academy

On the 28th of March 2011, Quilliam's Head of Outreach and Training, Ghaffar Hussain, spoke at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham. His speech focused on the rise of Islamist radicalization in the UK with an emphasis on the role played by factors such as identity, alienation and environment.
